Book Review for Faraway Child by Amy Maida Wadsworth
· Rating:
· The Bottom Line: This novel is about a family that learns how to adjust when they find out their young daughter is Autistic. It also shows how the ward family learns how to reach out and help. Most importantly this novel shows how we need to depend upon the Lord to help us through our struggles no matter what they are.

· Pros: o An easy to read and gripping
novel.
o Touches beautifully on a sensitive topic and how we can
all
support those touched by autism(or any other
disorder)
o Based
off the authors life so very realistic.
· Cons: o Didn’t really find any in this great book
· Description: o Contains 234 pages with 30 chapters in this
soft-cover book. Also available on
CD.
o Written based on the author’s own experiences of learning her daughter
was
autistic.
o Starts with the mother in the store and her experiences and feelings as
she deals with her difficult 2 year old.
o As you learn more about the adorable 2 year old you learn that she is
dealing with more that just “the terrible
twos”
o You
learn as the mother does about her daughters autism, as she finally admits that
more is going on than she wants to admit.
· Review: This is a great novel to read for just the novel but it is much more than that. For any parent who struggles with a child they will relate to this story. Have 7 children of my own I could relate with this mother and none of my children are autistic. I felt the best part of this book was the mother’s realization of the Lord’s help, even if it wasn’t in the way she wanted. I recommend this book to all but especially to those who struggle with an autistic child or a child with any other disability. I would also recommend it to any church worker, especially those who work with children. A great book.
